A quieter corner: styling one beautiful plant

One well-placed plant can give a room a focal point without filling every surface. Start with the corner you already enjoy: the chair where you read, the edge of a desk, or the space beside a window. The aim is to make the room feel more considered, not more crowded.

Begin with the light

Before choosing a plant for its shape, look at how light moves through that corner. Observe it in the morning and afternoon. A decorative position is only useful if it suits the plant. Keep enough clearance for curtains, doors and everyday movement.

Give the silhouette room

Broad leaves read best against a relatively simple background. Fine or trailing foliage can soften a shelf, provided stems do not obstruct a walkway. Leave some empty space around the plant so its shape remains visible.

Keep the finish simple

Repeat one material already in the room: a warm ceramic, a pale stone tone or a woven texture. A nursery pot inside a decorative container makes it easier to water and drain. Take a photograph from your usual seat, then adjust the arrangement until the plant feels part of the room.
